Friends of Libraries Week: Beyond Data Viz: Data Art

Friends of Libraries Week: Beyond Data Viz: Data Art In-Person

National Friends of Libraries Week is from October 20 to 26, an annual event that provides an opportunity to promote Friends of Libraries groups in the community, raise awareness about their efforts, and encourage membership. Join us on Thursday, October 24th either at 2:30PM or 5:30PM to explore the fascinating intersection of data and art.

Gregory J. Matthews, PhD, will address the questions of what data art is, argue for the inevitability of data as a medium for art, and offer a brief overview of the history of data art. Dr. Matthews is a statistician and data artist at Loyola University Chicago who will lead us through a discussion of data art, followed by a presentation on creating data art using the statistical programming language R.

Participants will have the opportunity to print their projects for pickup at a later time. Refreshments will also be provided.
