Kristallnacht: Night of Broken Glass - 87th Anniversary In-Person
Co-sponsored by the Department of History, University Libraries, and Polish Studies Program
Please join us to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the End of World War II with this opportunity to learn lessons of courage and resilience from Professor George Otto, a World War II survivor, born in Warsaw in 1929. Professor Otto will share his vivid memories of the Nazi invasion of Poland in 1939 and the occupation that followed bringing violence against and persecution of the Polish and Jewish communities.
Professor Otto taught Management and Economics at several universities and has been a leader at Truman College and in the Polish American community.
Kristallnacht, “Night of Broken Glass,” took place on November 9-10, 1938, throughout Germany, Austria and the Sudetenland. The shattered glass was from hundreds of destroyed synagogues, Jewish businesses, homes and institutions, and many lives were lost. Kristallnacht marked a dramatic increase in Nazi terror and demonstrated the murderous potential of Nazi antisemitism.
