Join us as author, Victoria Ann Granacki (Mundelein 1969), discusses her moving new book, An Artist Goes to War, Leon Granacki in the South Pacific WWII, which honors her father’s service during WWII. The story is of an ordinary working-class Chicago guy drafted into the US Army in 1941 is drawn from an incredible written and visual collection of his wartime experiences. Original hand-drawn pen and ink maps, jungle watercolors, journal illustrations, scrapbook photos and 200 letters to his extended family reveal his longing for family, shared holidays, fishing, and a woman to love. They tell what it felt like on a very personal level to be part of a raging war in the South Pacific.
